When it’s over with your girlfriend, is it really over? Well, sometimes it is. On other occasions, you can successfully learn how to get with your ex girlfriend. While the process isn’t an exact science, here are some helpful tips that will certainly give you the best chance to get back together with your sweetheart:

1. Avoid contacting her for one or two weeks.

How to get with your ex girlfriendAfter breaking up with your ex-girlfriend, your gut reaction might be to call, text, or e-mail her immediately. Don’t do it! Yes, when figuring out how to get with your ex girlfriend, that’s easier said than done. Still, give it a go. You probably shouldn’t wait a year to contact her again. That said, if you end all contact with your ex for a week or two, you’ll have leverage in the process of trying to reconcile with her. Basically, she’ll be double-guessing: Was the breakup her fault? Why haven’t you contacted her? Do you want to get back together with her? Contacting your ex immediately can make you seem desperate, which can give her an edge in the “game” of love. On the other hand, contacting your ex one or two weeks after the breakup will significantly increase your chance of reuniting with her.

2. Paint the town red.

This can be one of the toughest things to do after a breakup. In fact, your natural reaction is probably to stay at home and sulk. That’s one of the worst steps you can take! Sure, you’ll need a a day or two to evaluate what went wrong, and to sift through the spectrum of emotions that you’re feeling. However, then it’s time to be out and about! If you neglected your friends due to the past relationship with your ex, then this is the time to spend some time with them. Going out will be especially effective in a small town, since it’s highly likely that your ex-girlfriend will see (or hear) about the event. She’ll then likely wonder how much the breakup has affected you.

3. Make a change (for the better).

Taking this step will also likely help you to master how to get with your ex girlfriend. The change doesn’t have to be drastic. What’s important is that your ex sees that you’re willing to change your ways. The change will be most effective if it’s somehow related to the cause of the breakup. If you’ve had the same argument 1,001 times, then your being unwilling to change would likely result in the same arguments if the two of you were to get back together. Changing isn’t always easy. However, it shows that you understand the importance of give-and-take in a relationship.

4. Avoid playing the blame game.

Yes, it’s human nature for us to believe that we’re right—even when we know that we’re wrong. It takes two to tango. Also, oftentimes it’s both the boyfriend and girlfriend who are responsible for a breakup. So try to be as objective as possible when attempting to make amends with your ex-girlfriend. If you’ve made a mistake, admit it. If you’ve hurt her feelings, apologize to her. If you feel that she’s 100% responsible for the breakup, make sure that you’re being 100% objective in your evaluation.
